Turning Around (2)

“Blind date, right?” Mo Sheng called out, raising her voice.

“Lower your voice!” Hua Xianzi covered her mouth, warning her, “Don't make a sound, got it?”

Mo Sheng quickly nodded. As soon as Hua Xianzi released her hand, she asked, “Are you going on a blind date?”

“It’s not just me; it’s us.”

“Me? Why?” Mo Sheng looked a bit dazed.

“You're the oldest in our group without a boyfriend. If we don’t hurry, you might not get married at all. You know what I mean?” Hua Xianzi waved at her planner, “Today’s target is the systems engineer from XX Company. It’s perfect for both of us.”

“If you want to go, go yourself. I’m not going.”

“But there are two of them; I can’t handle it alone… Mo Sheng, I’m usually good to you, and whether I can get married this year depends entirely on you.”

Hua Xianzi looked at her pitifully, like a neglected little puppy.

“You could ask one at a time.”

“No way! That’s too inefficient, plus I need your help.”

“Help with what?” Mo Sheng asked cautiously, knowing well that Hua Xianzi’s requests usually exceeded the capabilities of an average person.

As expected, Hua Xianzi rummaged through her desk, pulling out a heap of items: black-frame glasses, a bizarre wig, oversized earrings that could be used as bracelets, and a brightly colored outfit.

“What are these for?” Mo Sheng stared at the pile in disbelief.

“To disfigure your image and highlight my beauty!”

“...How many victims have there been before me?”

As soon as work hours ended, Hua Xianzi dragged her down the stairs. When they finally reached the lobby, she suddenly screamed, “Ah! I forgot my lucky lipstick!”

She dashed back upstairs to get the lipstick that was said to guarantee success on blind dates.

Mo Sheng waited by the door and suddenly felt a burning gaze on her. Following the stare, she was surprised to see He Yichen.

He met her gaze and nodded in acknowledgment.

Her heart skipped a beat. Would he be here to see her? It had been nearly a month since their “silent dinner,” and they hadn’t contacted each other since. Was he finally here for her?

Her feet moved towards him involuntarily.

“What are you doing here?”

“Waiting for someone,” he replied curtly.

“Oh, waiting…”

“He Yichen!” Accompanied by a soft voice, a slender and beautiful woman appeared in her sight, and Mo Sheng’s heart sank.

“The person I'm waiting for has arrived, so I'm leaving first.” He spoke to her plainly and walked away with the woman.

“Okay, bye.”

She stood there, staring blankly as the two walked toward the parking lot. She found herself unable to move, until Hua Xianzi appeared and pulled her away. “What are you standing there for? Hurry up! We’re running out of time; we still have to do your makeup. Remember, you have to act a bit inferior…”

It wasn’t even necessary to act; Mo Sheng’s expression turned dazed and her reactions were sluggish, perfectly accentuating Hua Xianzi’s radiant image at the blind date party.

He was waiting for her again. Mo Sheng looked down from the floor-to-ceiling window, seeing He Yichen standing below in a simple shirt and pants, exuding charisma. For the past month, he had shown up here every four to five days and then left with that beautiful woman.

It was the weekend again, and he was back. He had never waited for her before.

“Mo Sheng, Mo Sheng.” Hua Xianzi was calling out again, “It’s the weekend; you’re coming with me…”

“Fine.”

“Huh?” Hua Xianzi was taken aback. “You know what I’m going to do?”

“Blind date!” Mo Sheng replied impatiently. Given her “stellar performance” last time, Hua Xianzi had become persistent, dragging her along every weekend to “accompany” her.

However, it was quite fun to go on blind dates with her. Mo Sheng didn’t have to worry about anyone liking her; she just had to eat and watch Hua Xianzi show off.

But who was today’s date?

“Hehehe, a young talent, a surgeon, dining on Western cuisine, hahahaha…”

Mo Sheng couldn’t help but laugh at her prideful expression. She really had a knack for finding increasingly impressive blind date candidates, though she had yet to catch one; instead, they often turned into her good friends or friend’s husbands, none of whom were the right fit.

At the ripe age of twenty-nine, Hua Xianzi had sworn that she would marry any man.

Since she needed to go home early to “get ready,” Mo Sheng got off work on time and inevitably ran into He Yichen downstairs. She wanted to keep her head down and walk past him, but Hua Xianzi suddenly stopped, staring daggers at He Yichen… and the beautiful woman beside him.

“How outrageous!” Hua Xianzi gritted her teeth. Before Mo Sheng could react, she had already dragged her in front of He Yichen and the woman.

“Fox spirit, are you flirting with three men again?”

The beautiful woman, instead of being coy, snapped back, “Date addict! Aren’t you dragging someone else to go on a blind date?” She glanced at Mo Sheng. “She’s way prettier than you. Just wait to become a wallflower and never get married!”

The two of them started arguing, and Mo Sheng stood there in shock, awkwardly greeting He Yichen, “Hi!”

He looked quite upset. Of course, no one would be happy when their girlfriend was insulted as a “fox spirit.”

“Uh, sorry, she’s just like that, thoughtless,” Mo Sheng explained for Hua Xianzi.

He Yichen's expression hardened, his gaze icy enough to freeze. “You’re going on a blind date?”

“Uh, yeah…” Mo Sheng hesitated and didn’t know what to say; her reluctance only affirmed his suspicions.

He didn’t say anything more, giving her a gloomy look before turning to leave.

“He Yichen, wait for me.” The woman who had been arguing with Hua Xianzi saw him leaving and hurriedly followed.

Mo Sheng was momentarily too distracted to process her own feelings since Hua Xianzi's expression was incredibly strange—was she… crying?

Hua Xianzi! The ever-playful Hua Xianzi was crying?

“Xiao Hong, if you can’t win an argument, crying is shameful.”

“What do you know!” Hua Xianzi glared at her with tear-filled eyes. “She stole my first boyfriend.”

Uh, so it was truly a deep-seated grudge! Mo Sheng felt a surge of solidarity and patted her shoulder. "There are plenty of fish in the sea; let’s find someone better tonight and make her mad!"

“I’m not angry she stole the man I liked; I’m mad that she stole him and didn’t cherish him, which led to his accident. After he broke his leg, she abandoned him. How could she do that?! How can a person like her still have his love? Why doesn’t he like me? Is it just because I’m not as pretty as her? Wuwu…”

Mo Sheng was dumbfounded. She had no idea that the usually infatuated Hua Xianzi had such a deep story. Was it true that the more outwardly cheerful a person was, the more fragile they were inside?

As she continued to comfort her, they both ended up being late; Mo Sheng hadn’t even had time to put on a disguise, and Hua Xianzi, feeling dejected, skipped her usual antics. As a result…

To their surprise, two outstanding surgeons seemed quite interested in them?!

Oh my gosh! Was this considered a blessing in disguise?

Thanks to the men’s overwhelming enthusiasm, the four of them ended up watching a movie, singing, and having a late-night snack until after eleven before returning home.

As they approached the door, Mo Sheng finally let out a sigh of relief, “Doctor Zheng, I’m home now. Thank you for bringing me back.”

“Oh。”

“Oh.” Doctor Zheng stopped talking about heart disease and said gentlemanly, “Good night, Miss Zhao. I had a great time today.”

“Me too, good night!” Mo Sheng replied with a smile and waited for him to go upstairs before heading up herself.

The hallway lights were out, casting it into a dim light. She reached the door on the fourth floor and fumbled for her keys when suddenly a tall shadow appeared in her sight, startling her so much that she dropped the keys.

“You…”

Before she could finish her sentence, she was pulled into a strong embrace, and before she could react, her unguarded lips were kissed hungrily. His fierce kiss didn’t stop there, as it swiftly traveled down to her neck, as if he wanted to unleash all of his pent-up frustration.

His hands tore at her collar, and just as she felt a chill, his lips and tongue covered her, consuming her entirely.

Mo Sheng didn't have time to process what was happening as she found herself lost in this unexpected chaos, the air thick with tension and the scent of alcohol. Alcohol? He had been drinking!

Mo Sheng managed to regain some clarity and breathlessly called out, “He Yichen!”

His movements stilled, pausing with his head still buried in her neck, inhaling sharply.

After a long moment, he finally spoke in a husky voice, “I lost.”

What does that mean?

“After all these years, I still lost to you, utterly defeated.”

Why did his voice sound so sorrowful?

“He Yichen, what are you saying? Are you drunk?” she asked uneasily.

Silence, then he suddenly pushed her away. His beautiful eyes glimmered with a mixture of frustration and anger in the dark as he said coldly and clearly, “I’m not drunk. I’ve gone mad.”

He turned and disappeared, just as suddenly as he had appeared. If it weren’t for the faint pain on her lips, she would have thought this was all a ridiculous dream.

Picking up the keys from the ground, she opened the door but stood there dumbfounded. If it weren’t for the sudden ringing of her phone, she wasn’t sure how long she would have remained frozen.

“Hello?” she answered, and the excited voice of Hua Xianzi came through, “Mo Sheng, how’s it going?”

What’s going on? Mo Sheng couldn’t wrap her mind around it at first.

“Hurry and tell me, did Doctor Zheng show any special interest? Did he ask you to meet again?”

“No.”

“How is that possible!” Hua Xianzi exclaimed. “He clearly seemed very satisfied!”

Of course, he probably thought it was gratifying to have someone so cooperative attend his “Heart Disease and Love” lecture.

“What about you?” Mo Sheng cut off her spiraling thoughts and directly asked.

“He asked me to watch a movie tomorrow. Hehehe…” A terrifying laugh came from the other end. “Mo Sheng, starting tomorrow, I’m going to act like a proper lady!”
