有趣的误会

Interesting misunderstanding

上个月,我和一个刚认识的外国朋友李明一起去餐厅吃饭,发生了一个有趣的误会。

Last month, I went to a restaurant with a newly met foreign friend, Li Ming, and we had an interesting misunderstanding.

李明来中国只有三个月,汉语说得不是很流利,但他非常喜欢尝试使用汉语交流。

Li Ming has only been in China for three months and his Chinese is not very fluent, but he really enjoys trying to communicate in Chinese.

我们点菜的时候,服务员推荐了他们的招牌菜"鱼香肉丝",并解释说这道菜很受欢迎。

When we were ordering, the waiter recommended their signature dish "Yu Xiang Rou Si" (fish-flavored shredded pork) and explained that this dish is very popular.

李明听后非常兴奋地说:"我很喜欢鱼,也喜欢肉,这个菜一定很好吃!"

Upon hearing this, Li Ming was very excited and said, "I really like fish and meat, this dish must be delicious!"

当服务员把菜端上来时,李明尝了一口,然后疑惑地问我:"这个菜怎么没有鱼的味道?"

When the waiter brought the dish to the table, Li Ming took a bite and then asked me in confusion, "Why doesn't this dish taste like fish?"

我忍不住笑了,解释说"鱼香"只是一种调味方法,这道菜里其实没有鱼。

I couldn't help but laugh and explained that "Yu Xiang" is just a flavoring method, and there is actually no fish in this dish.

李明听后也笑了,说中文真是太有意思了,名字和实际内容有时候完全不一样。

After hearing this, Li Ming also laughed and said that Chinese really is interesting, as the name and the actual content can sometimes be completely different.

后来我们又点了"夫妻肺片",李明看到菜名时惊讶地睁大了眼睛,以为是真的肺。

Later, we ordered "Fu Qi Fei Pian" (couple's lung slices), and Li Ming's eyes widened in surprise when he saw the dish's name, thinking it was actual lungs.

我再次解释说这个菜是用牛肉和牛舌做的,不是真的肺,他才放心地尝了一口。

I explained again that this dish is made with beef and beef tongue, not real lungs, and only then did he feel relieved to take a bite.

通过这次经历,我意识到语言学习中这种文化差异和误解其实很有意思,也是学习过程中的乐趣。

Through this experience, I realized that these cultural differences and misunderstandings in language learning are actually very interesting and are part of the joy of the learning process.
